A bride, a dinosaur and Addidas

Really great graffiti. I usually don't like graffiti but this is so well done
It's a dinosaur skeleton that appears to be running as you pass by on the train. I especially like it when the skull turns and looks at you.

The Running Skeleton - Watch the best video clips here

Here is a great old Addidas ad. Very imaginative dream sequence.

And a really cute wedding commercial, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Cmku_ZaB714
Once again. Better than the shows.

Coke + Mentos + Too Much Free Time =

A demonstration of the domino effect. http://www.glumbert.com/media/mentosdominos I've been reading about the, dropping Mentos into a bottle of Coke, experiment off and on for awhile now. It must have been a real mess for the kid who tried it first, I imagine there was lots of yelling and grounding going on. I've not tried it yet but I'll try to remember to pick the ingredients up the next time I go to the store. On further reading, the mint Mentos work best and it has to be Diet Coke.
Also, at the beginning of the video, it names this experiment #214. These guys used a lot of Coke and candy. I wonder how much it ended up costing?
Link to their website: http://www.eepybird.com/
This is a link to the Wikipedia article on it http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mentos_eruption which explains the science behind it and has lots more links to similar things including a link to Pop Rocks Candy. It sounds like Pop Rocks had a similar explanation of the process used to make them. http://www.poprockscandy.com/

New Hat

I've made Liz a hat. Bosco reluctantly agreed to model it.

Bosco Running

Caught this with the burst feature on my camera. It's the best thing for catching great shots when the subject is moving. I love my new camera. Digital photograpy has to be one of the best inventions of the last decade or so.

Folding Pages

So I tried the folded page sculpture. The simple one turned out OK so I thought I had it hammered. However, my second try, on the more complex folds, was pretty much a disaster. It was surprisingly difficult to keep my folds even.
On the bigger one, you have to fold and then unfold each page and then go back at the end and refold everything, otherwise it gets too tight to fold.
I'll try again but not anytime real soon.
The instructional video was not very helpful. I think the guy who demonstrated it had been coerced into it and decided to do the bare minimum. "Here, foldoncefoldtwicefoldthreetimes. There, now do it five hundred more times."
I used to have an old book called, I think, fun with paper. It had really good instructions on how to make these things but I got rid of it during one of my 'Oh, I can get it at the library" type purges.
The guy in the video did mention it was done by a '"prison lady" so I guess she had nothing better to do.

Foot Note

I'm adding something to my February 14, 2007 entry that I found today. It is valentine related and I'm more likely to be able to find it if I add it to the Valentines Day (or Singles Awareness Day) page than if I stick it here.

Teeny, Tiny Knitted Things

These are amazing. Teeny, tiny knitted things. She knits them with straight pins. Like it's not hard enough to begin with.

Happy Singles Awareness Day

Valentines

Nicely done animated valentine. Very sweet. I love the shrug.

Valentine for a perfect Stranger. This is really strange. Really.

More of the same but in Russian. Oddly enough it's less strange in Russian.

Absolutely The Coolest Chair Ever

This is so cool. It's a folding chair that can be several different chairs or even a couch (the link goes to a demonstration video). Really an outstanding design. It is one of those counterintuitive things that I suppose can easily be explained by physics and weight distribution and all of those kinds of things I don't understand. The chair is made of paper and reminds me of those sculptures made out of the folded pages of books.
One of these days I will get an old book out of one of the boxes in the garage and try to do one of the sculptures.

Word Play

Dammit, I can think of all sorts of things to write about when I'm lying in bed, and even get a good start on putting the words together, but by the time I get here to my blog, it's all gone.
Oh well, here are some more websites that I rescued off of my old computer.

This is kind of a cool site called Word Play. It takes awhile to load but it's very well designed. You just have to move the mouse around until you figure out how to make it work.

And then there is:
The Military Application of Silly String
Short story found via BoingBoing on how one soldier uses silly string to find booby traps in house to house fighting by spraying it ahead of himself and noting where it drapes itself over the trip wires. . Interesting. http://www.cockeyed.com/citizen/silly/silly.html So that article is missing so I found this link about a mother who finally found a shipper who could ship several thousand cans of this over to her serviceman son. You'd think the military would just start supplying it if it's that useful.

I was right, I have been forced onto the New Blogger and coerced into creating a Google account, but it's OK so far.

Ambient Lighting

Very cool ambient light that casts tree shadows, as if through a window, on your wall.
The same guy does candle holders that cast various shadows.
